Joining Holmes Lab

Graduate Students

Our lab is currently at capacity and we will not be recruiting or interviewing graduate student candidates for the 2023-2024 application cycle.

Postdoctoral Fellow

Candidates are being considered for postdoctoral fellowship position in the laboratory of Dr. Avram Holmes in the Department of Psychology at Yale University.

Research in our laboratory is focused on discovering the fundamental organization of large-scale human brain networks. A core motivation that drives this work is the search for specific network-level signatures, or “fingerprints”, that co-vary with heritable behavioral variation in the general population and mark vulnerability for psychiatric illness onset. Our current projects encompass three complementary domains of inquiry which aim to (1) characterize the organization of functional and anatomical brain networks; (2) establish reliable links between genetic variation, system-level brain function, and behavior in the general population; and (3) explore associations between disturbances in network organization and clinical presentation in psychiatric illness.

Within these broad domains the fellow will have the freedom to spearhead their own studies (basic, translational, or clinical) while devoting approximately two-thirds of their effort to supporting ongoing PI initiated NIMH-funded projects. Applicants should have a PhD or MD and demonstrated expertise in clinical, cognitive, or translational neuroscience. Candidates with experience in computer science, statistics, genetics, or related fields are also strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants should be comfortable with methodological innovation, and is interested in optimizing and developing analysis pipelines tailored to the study of high-dimensional imaging and genetic datasets. New approaches and ideas are encouraged, as are independent projects that complement our current studies.

For questions, or to submit an application, please contact Dr. Holmes. Applications should be submitted as a single PDF and include (1) A cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae, and (3) two published or in press papers that best reflect the contributions of the candidate to the field.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until a suitable candidate is selected. Duration and start time are negotiable.

Software Developer

The Holmes Lab invites applications for a full-time software developer to expand the software infrastructure and facilitate the integration, archiving, mining, and sharing of neuroimaging and associated data. Additional duties will include the development of an associated web-based platform for the collection of self-report and behavioral data. This position is particularly suited for computationally minded individuals seeking exposure to clinical/translational neuroscience and the use of big data in neuroinformatics. The successful applicant will join a collaborative multidisciplinary team at the cutting edge of the development and dissemination of digital tools and resources for neuroscience. Multiple simultaneous projects are currently underway requiring a variety of technology skills including full-stack web programming, NoSQL databases and cloud computing, API development, visualization and UX, security, and big data management and analytics. The position involves engaging with many different people and institutions during the entire software lifecycle to support the design, build, and maintenance of mission-critical software for clinical neuroscience research; excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are required. Being comfortable in an intellectually charged scientific environment and having a desire to learn and apply new skills while independently managing projects are musts. Position tenure is expected to be at least two years. Interested applicants should send their CV to Dr. Holmes.

Undergraduate Research Assistants

We have positions available for motivated undergraduates who are looking to gain experience in clinical and cognitive neuroscience. RAs are responsible for providing various forms of research-related support, including recruitment, running, and payment of human subjects, stimulus and paradigm development, and data maintenance and analysis. If you are interested, please email your CV and a brief paragraph describing your reasons for applying to Kaley.
